This
red wine is made from 75% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo Nero, 6% Trebbiano,
and 15% unidentified grapes which may include Malvasia, Masseretta,
Ciliegiolo, Aleatico and Colorino, all grown near Florence and Siena
in the central part of Tuscany.
The
Sangiovese vine is probably indigenous to Tuscany, perhaps of ancient
origin, as suggested by the literal translation of its name: "Blood
of Jupiter."
Villa Sonia Chianti posesses an intense red, almost garnet color.
It has a delicate and intense bouquet with a slight hint of violets.
The genius of Chianti rests upon the way it stimulates the appetite
and pairs with food, and not just pasta. Whether with broiled fish,
stewed lamb, or white beans and sausages, Villa Sonia Chianti is a
recommended and important part of the table setting.
