Bodegas Volver

La Mancha

“Volver” is the name given to Bodegas Volver’s best Tempranillo.

La Mancha is located in central Spain and it is the largest continuous vine-growing area in the world. The winery is located in the best terroir found in the eastern region of the D.O.

The soil here is the reason that the winery committed to purchasing its 95 hectares (228 acres) of vineyards. The sandy soils range up to 1 meter in depth and cover large river stones, with a lot of iron, clay, and chalk.

The vineyards are located at an altitude of 660 meters (1,980 ft) above sea level. The vines average 40 years in age and produce very low yields of 1-2 Kg of grapes per vine. Winters are very cold; summers are hot with cool nights. It is a very dry climate.

The star Spanish enologist Rafael Cañizares seeks to achieve the maximum expression of the Tempranillo grape grown in this environment. After very careful vineyard selections, only the best Tempranillo grapes are hand harvested.

Long slow fermentation and maceration is followed by gentle ageing for six months in French oak barrels.

2005 Volver earned 90 points in Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar:

The top wine from their oldest vines. (100% tempranillo) Saturated ruby. Strikingly aromatic nose offers a pungent array of fruit, floral and herbal scents. Sweet cherry-vanilla and cola flavors coat the palate and are enlivened by juicy acidity. Supple tannins gain strength on the finish, which strongly repeats the cola and floral qualities. This is ready to drink.”
